Hello all!

No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I am still here. It has been a very busy few months, and I have comfortably adapted to a new lifestyle. I have found that in doing this, my leisure time budgeted for cyber-life was reduced some, though, which is why it has been rather quiet around here for awhile... a long while. I apologize for that.

Despite the lack of updates here, I have been photographing constantly, but instead of doing so at my own discretion, I instead am shooting almost strictly for assignments. I have been trying new techniques I have never been exposed to before, and have only just begun using newfound equipment. I have been experimenting with the art a lot, and will post what I deem "successes" here on DeviantArt whenever I can. :)

I thank you for your patience with me, and hope that you all will continue to help me on the endless journey of improving my work (and I will try to do the same for you). :aww: I appreciate every bit of feedback I receive, whether or not I respond to it. Thank you.

Hello all!

For the past month or so I have been redesigning my website, A Place for Photos (www.aplaceforphotos.com). I have streamlined the layout a bit by omitting a boatload of unnecessary links. Now, it is comprised of six simple main pages:
:bulletgreen: Home
:bulletgreen: About
:bulletgreen: Guestbook
:bulletgreen: Links
:bulletgreen: Gallery
:bulletgreen: Store

All pages have been completely redone. The number of photos in my gallery has also been decreased significantly to rid of lesser-quality photographs.

I now am selling my work as well (without the overbearing watermarks.) I am offering prints, canvas prints, mousepads, you name it! See the Store page for more details. If you would like to purchase my work and help me fund my college education, I would greatly appreciate it!!! [link]

Update: I was largely inspired by a contest held here on DeviantArt at #MacroPhotographers to document my first 30 days in my new surroundings (otherwise known as college living) by taking macro photos of items relating to each given day. In other words, I would like to share my journey and experiences with all of you. Click here to view: [link]

Time this summer has had an eerie way of differing in its the perceived lengths. One moment, it seems as if the clock is moving ever so swiftly; the weight of the saying "time flies" feeling more true than ever, pressing down with utmost force. In another moment, time seems to have stopped, and a single day can feel as though it were seven days...

In amongst this conflict lie the plans; plans that long to flourish, plans that desire to be completed. Plans that, if followed through with, would likely be marvelous (or at least, that is what the mind believes). They're floating around in this cranium, waiting to be unleashed. The plans in the form of tasks "to-do" are mingling with the plans that have taken on the likeness of creative ideas; all in a state of limbo, if you will.

Eventually, I hope that these tasks and ideas do indeed escape from the brain and are shared with a greater audience, but because of changes thirteen days to come from now, it appears that they will simply have to linger there longer than one would have initially hoped.

But, with time, they will appear on the stage for the audience to behold. :) (With a little bit of patience and motivation, of course).

Peace to all.

Hello All!

A few weeks ago, I boarded a plane to go overseas for the very first time in my life. I spent two weeks in Spain, and a few days in Italy, where I saw, experienced, and absorbed more than I could have ever imagined, to say the very least. My camera was my trusted companion each and every day, and I arrived back home with full memory cards. :)

Since I have been back, I have been spending a great deal of time "weeding through" photographs from my trip. I am now in the process of taking a critical eye to them in order to select only the "cream of the crop," so to speak, to post here on DeviantArt. Soon enough, you'll be seeing some new photos popping up here and there, and I do hope you enjoy them! :aww: I know I enjoyed taking them.

Additionally, I would like to add that I will linger here often during the rest of the summer. :D

Peace to all,
Marta

I think I've explained this before within the description of one of my photographs, but I feel the need to delve into it here as well.

With my work to build a portfolio, and because of the fact that I'm attempting to exit the amateur stage in photography, I think it is increasingly important to claim my work in a fashion in which it will not likely fall to theft. In other words, I feel it is only necessary to place a watermark in a clear position on my work. I understand that this may disrupt the viewing process in a way, but I think it is important (as it is to any artist) that my work is protected in some way shape or form.

From here on out, it will be this way. Conditions may apply later in the future, upon some consideration of my own, to adjust this under certain circumstances, but I have yet to even place a thought on it.

I hope that you all, as artists, understand my intentions in doing this. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the title really speaks to how I'm feeling. Let's just put it this way: the month of March was absolutely horrendous in terms of overwhelming tasks and situations... and it's not even over yet! Oh... dear...

Because of all of these things on my "To-Do" list, I haven't had a lot of time to decompress and as much as I would like... Even photographic assignments that have to get done have been sitting on the back-burner because of multitudes of other things that are of higher priority... It's a pity! What's even worse? I haven't had the chance to crawl around here, on Deviantart, very much at all. I feel... deprived.

Fortunately, there is an upside to things! I will be given some free time for the first time in many, many weeks: time that will be budgeted doing some much-needed relaxing with family, and taking as many photos as I like, whenever I like. :D I must admit, I'm feeling giddy just thinking about it. :la: So, with that being said, you will be seeing me again (though, I'm pretty sure nobody missed me nor cared about the lack of activity around here), but hey, you'll be seeing me, whether you want to or not. ;)

Until then, happy remainder-of-March!

I do recall, in my previous journal entry, stating that I was experimenting. Well, I still am. I now have access to equipment that I would never dream of being able to use on a normal basis due to my enrollment in a Digital Media Arts program. There, I am learning so much more about lighting, focus, composition... the whole nine-yards, so to speak. I also am beginning to realize that I really would like to purchase a nice SLR camera... Fie on my lack of money and how so very much college tuition costs...

It is there that I am experimenting with all sorts of things; testing waters that I have never before waded. I have found that I like taking pictures with people as my subjects, which I never used to do much. I also am discovering that I may want to transform this hobby into something more, depending on where this "learning experience" takes me, though at the moment I do not possess sufficient confidence in my abilities. Perhaps that is holding me back, or perhaps I am correct to think so.

At any rate, I am trying all sorts of different things photographically; some I may post, some I may not. Some, obviously, will need a lot of work and probably would be best not shared online, and some, perhaps, will not be so. I am a terrible judge of my own work; it seems the photos I adore tend not to be my strongest, so I'll post "failures", inevitably. :D

So yes, this is to clear up any confusion as I begin to post random photos that seem to come out of nowhere. I apologize.

7/12/10: I have been... experimenting! :D I'm finding that this summer, despite being bogged down by schoolwork and work in general, has been bearing significant opportunities to really jump out on a limb and try something new and unfamiliar...
Today, speaking of trying something new, I created something totally out of my element... but after hours of working, I'm quite content with it. I'll have to upload it very soon - I'd really love some feedback/constructive criticism. :aww:

6/10/10: I've finally been given a break from school, and already I have a folder labeled "Summer Projects" that you may be seeing some work from. :) Unfortunately, even during this break, I'm finding my leisure time extremely limited.
Furthermore, though, I am planning another feature sometime this summer when I find a slew of spare time. :aww:

Vacation and Winter... and my Website!

Situation Update: 12/31/09:
I'm trying to get mentally prepared for 2010. :woohoo:Exciting! Happy New Year everyone!
I just recently went on a little vacation during my holiday break. Thankfully, the location included a lack of all the snow I've been seeing and also included tons of beautiful things to take pictures of. I'm already getting right to work on cropping, editing, posting, etc. :)

But now that I'm home, it's back to taking pictures of the many icicles, trees covered in snow, iced plants... I'm not complaining though; even though winter sweeps through this area of the world and takes away most of the colors that fall and spring had given, the change is beautiful. The gorgeous glittering snow only arrives once a year, so now is the time to get out there an capture some chilly scenes. :aww:

A side note: One of these days, I'm going to dedicate a journal entry to featuring a few of the great works here on Deviantart. The only problem is: what shall the theme be? That, and, "Oh my goodness, how in the world will I choose!?"

Another note: I would love to thank all of those who have supported me here on Deviantart. You really flatter me with your comments, features, and favorites. I honestly cannot thank you all enough: you are my inspiration. :)

I stink at titles.

I have fallen in love with photography... the capturing of one moment that will never be again, and coming back to it through pictures. I just love the concept...
I know I do not have any talent in photography, though (one wouldn't have to tell me that twice), though I really do enjoy it with a strong passion. This love can't be extinguished simply by my lack of raw talent. I do hope to pursue it, though, and hopefully over time and with some assistance, my skills will improve. Maybe, just maybe, at this point in time, some talent will begin to develop and flourish. :aww:

Situation Update: 10/23/09:
Today was simply an amazing day! I received third place in :iconskyandnatureclub:'s Grass Contest! :woohoo: I'm completely taken aback and feel so very, very flattered. I now have the pleasure of experiencing Deviantart's premium membership program thanks to uae4u and mayoofka. I am already greatly enjoying it. :)
